Summer, Sun, Skiing and Snowboarding on the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier
Kaprun, Austria -
Over the weekend, nearly 50 freeskiers and snowboarders were fighting their snow and winter withdrawal at the Snowpark Tour Summer Jam at the Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun. Their cure was a slopestyle session on the kickers and rails of the ski resort's Glacier Park, and some of the riders will be returning to the Kitzsteinhorn next winter as they qualified for the finals of the Snowpark Tour 2008 which will take place at Europasportregion Zell am See/Kaprun.
Skiers and snowboarders went big over the weekend as the Snowpark Tour 2008 landed on the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier in Kaprun, Austria.
After Saturday's cloudy weather limited the on-snow action to a laid-back “Expression Session”, the real Snowpark Tour contest took place on Sunday under bluebird skies. Matthias Leitner from Kaprun (AUT) liked the conditions so much that he took the victory at the freeskiers’ contest. Together with runner-up Thomas Foelsner from Lend (AUT), he qualified for the finals of the Snowpark Tour 2008. Florian Ehgartner from Salzburg (AUT) claimed third. At the kicker and the quarter-pipe, the freeskiers showed tricks like Switch Cork 720, Switch 540, 900 Mute, Underflip or Rodeo 540. One of the highlights at the Curved Box was a Switch 270 on/ Switch-up 270 off.
Kilian Wiget from Cham (SUI) topped the strong field of snowboarders ahead of Matthias Gober from Neuhaus (AUT) and Simon Holzknecht from Pettneu am Arlberg (AUT). Sixteen-year-old Dave Remesperger from Kaprun (AUT) claimed fourth and also joined the Kitzsteinhorn snowpark team for the finals. The snowboarders showed tricks including the Cab 540, Backside Rodeo or Frontside 720 at the kickers as well as 270 on/270 off, Frontside and Backside Boardslides and Nosepress at the rail.
Bavarians dominated the women's snowboarding competition: Andrea Sanktjohanser from Gilching (GER) won, Miriam Hofmann from Munich (GER) took home second and Veronika Rajcsanyi from Geretsried (GER) third.
Bernd Gutwenger of event organizer Mellow Constructions was pleased with the Jam. “The Session was very good and the snow kept up," Gutwenger concluded. "The Summer Jam Team could be one of the leading teams at the finals."
